Too Much Sugar at School

When Leilani was first promoted to the 1st grade I noticed that the teacher liked to give/ reward the children with candy, I let it slide for the first week.

However, when the next week started out with her having candy at dismissal time I pulled the teacher aside and informed her that I didn't like Leilani eating copious amounts of sweets. She reassured me that it was because of the holiday season and that it would stop afterwards.

Yesterday when I picked Leilani up from school she had a PIXIE STICK?!! Um... if thats not PURE SUGAR I don't know what is! Then TODAY! I pick her up and I see that she didn't eat all of her lunch, only the caramel rice cake, and she had a goodie bag! Apparently it was one of her fellow classmates birthday so the girls parent's bought in goodie bags for the whole class. FINE, whatever, It's a party I can let it slide.

However!!!When we got home Leilani told me that she had Oreo mud pie worm pie. You know. The one with crushed Oreos, chocolate pudding and gummy worms. I love Oreo Mud Pie as much as the next guy but seriously?! Not to mention she had a pink cupcake as part of the girls birthday party!

Then when we were talking she told me that she told the teacher that she was "Giving them too much sugar" to which the teacher replied, No I'm not.

Now I'm NOT throwing the teacher under the bus and saying she is the only one at fault.
I've told Leilani to not eat so many sweets when they are offered but she's a five year old kid! Then there is the option to bring in treats for Leilani personally but then the other kids would be "left-out."

I don't want to be "that parent" however, I don't want my child eating so much frigging SUGAR!
I'm going to have to talk to the teacher again.

Not to mention they are probably washing all this sugar down with purple, orange or red sugar water!

Okay, I'm done.
