Stranger in Her Eyes: A Single Mother's Poem
After a conversation we had the other night I wrote a little poem about it and shared it with the wonderful blog Beyond Baby Mamas.
Let me know what you think.
Stranger in Her Eyes: A Single Mother’s Poem.
Single mother doing an amazing job but I can’t and won’t do your job.
“Saying ‘daddy’ feels funny to me
because he doesn’t call and I don’t see him, Mommy.”
Bedtime conversations where she wonders why she even calls you dad.
While her expressing her point of view affects me,
really, it should affect you.
But it doesn’t and it won’t because you’re not around.
Random phone calls you think are great aren’t
doing anything for her to reaffirm your place in her life.
The presents, cards, “just thinking of you text” never come,

Nicole Lynn Lewis Teen Mom TED Talk
Basically the talks average around 14 to 16 minutes and the person on stage talks about all their lives work, a moving experience, or anything inspiration and important to them in these few minutes. The point is to share your story in a way that people can relate to and hopefully find inspiration in and walk away thinking in a new way. While some of the talks are amazing and moving I longed to hear one that REALLY related to me.
Last year that finally happened.
Two AMAZING former teen moms and fellow pregnant and parenting teen advocates (Natasha Vianna and Nicole Lynn Lewis) delivered their TED Talks about teenage pregnancy and the work around support and encouragement that all teen and young parents need.
Nicole Lynn Lewis, author and founder of Generation Hope, delivered her first TED Talk (she has since done another) in 2013 about her nonprofit Generation Hope and teen and young parents education. Watch her talk and let me know what you think in the comments below.
